Lets, go, fly a

car?

Check this out.

You'd think modern avionics could straighten out the stability problem, like they did with the b2.

They say good hitters fail seven out of ten times. I'll bet some inventors would love to have that batting average.

The Avro Arrow was cancelled by Diefenbaker when he was PM. Many, many of the engineers who worked on it came down here and probably designed the Eagle many similar detaiils. Interesting little bit of detail, with a new engine it is the practice to test it on a proven airframe. Avro borrowed a B-52 from USAF and mounted one of the Arrow engines in a nacelle much like a DC-8 has. Thet got the B-52 airborne and fired up the Arrow engine - then turned off all the B-52's regular engines - and kept flying!

There was a lot of that back then. In 1953, the ideas may have been flowing but the technology was pretty crude. Something like that might be much more feasable today, but there would be no point. What is the practical purpose for it?

Speed. They mention at 500 mph you can go from NY to LA in 6-1/2 hours or something like that.

And roads, how much does this country spend on our awesome road system? It's got to be billions and billions. And billions.

I remember a car book in my elementary school library from the 50s, it had a whole chapter on nuke powered cars

Rob, that's cool. I didn't know you guys were so tech savvy!
