Wow, that is a long life. My great grandfather lived to 96 and his dad 104.
I'd like to break the family record.

Be careful what you wish for....I wouldn't wish the quality of life either one of them had on ANYONE. My mom's mother's mind checked out when she was 96-She spent the next nearly 7 years in sort of a twilight realm-Not quite here, not quite there. Her mind was going 100MPH in all directions, I think most of the time boogers chased her constantly. The other one, her mind was more or less OK, bur her body just shut down. Both of 'em had been dynamic, forceful individuals, I HOPE that neither one realised what was happening to her... Then there was the issue of pain. I DON'T think either one was in pain, but we never really knew. Both of them suffered hip/leg bone fractures that caused them to be bedridden, they supposedly were "fixed", but I kinda wondered. The one would lay there & moan or sometimes howl, it was pretty depressing...

I understand and agree, it's not always good to live a long life.

I hear ya buddy. Dad's in the Alzheimer's ward at the VA, hasn't known anyone for close to two years. Can't even get out of bed, or feed himself on his own.

Sad thing is, he told me back when he still had his mind that should the day come where he couldn't even feed himself, he didn't want the tubes..just let him die. Well, he will eat if you poke food in his mouth, but I don't think this is what he had in mind. Fortunately for him, I don't think he has any idea of what's happening to him. Not too sure about the pain, has horrible bed sores.

It's a horrible situation, and I try not to think about it, at times it's more than I can bear.
