June 19th, 2021 serenaded by Danny Carey

Moi. It happened to me.

On the eve of Father's Day, (call no man on earth father).

It just so happened that the top rated drummer in the entire world, Danny Carey, dropped by my little villa, Paola, Kansas to visit his dad.

I had no idea.

We have exactly one 'bar and grill' in the entire county, and I stumbled in there about 10 pm. No cover charge, open tap (as it turned out).

This band, Incognito, was playing cover tunes exceptionally well.

The bar and grill is called Pappa C's. It's like a metal shop building, and the acoustics generally suck, but Incognito was hooking up. It's like a double wide trailer house, twice expanded and i'm sitting 20 feet from Danny without even recognizing him. He was hitting a 5-piece drum set with precision, but he looked like an ogre due to his size.

There was a female vocalist that covered 'White Rabbit' note-on for Grace, and then everybody exited the building. It was cosmic.

i guess maybe you don't remember my stories (except for Steve).

One last self-abasing bump to this thread.

I'm such an idiot. I had mentioned on AK that I'm well acquainted with Danny's first drum tutor, a man named John Whitney, and that John keeps in touch with him via texting.

A long-term goal of mine was meeting Danny in person. I could have spoke to him that night, but no, I didn't recognize him. And it's awful that I was tripping on his physical size. How many 6'5", NFL sized drummers are there in the world.

That should have been my clue.

Figured it out 3 weeks later when I talked to another bar patron about what a great job Incognito did that night. That's when I found it was Danny, that he was visiting his dad, all that.

I apologize for using the word "ogre" in the OP. I just meant a normal size drum kit looks small in front of him. Stupid, that's what I am.
