Shouldn't this subject matter be in the global politics section.
I think I would rather talk about records than the potential financial collapse of our nation. BTW, a few weeks ago, my wife's uncle gave us a turntable and his record collection - all country. It was real country, however, and included some great music that I was otherwise unfamiliar with - Ernest Tubbs and the Texas Troubadours and Jimmie Rodgers (Had some Bob Wills and Johnny Cash too, but I was plenty familiar with their stuff). Also picked up some early Emmylou Harris - dang she has a sweet voice. Shoot, I might be a country boy after all.
Regards,
D-Ray

Tubbs FTW!! Congrats. I've recently been getting into old country as well.

All of this time you've been suppressing your Okie roots.
You need to come out of the closet and start wearing a white sports coat with a pink carnation.

Dave, the turn-table turned out to be the tag-along. It was a cheapie, automatic self-amplified. My wife likes it, however, because she thinks it is too complicated to use my system. She uses it to listen to the Happy Goodmans. I guess we both demonstrate our Okie roots.
Chas, I was at a thrift store yesterday and almost bought a cowboy shirt, but I bought a bunch of cassettes instead.
Carl, I agree with you about that great era of music. The stash also included Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Porter Wagoner, George Jones and some others (haven't gotten around to listening to all of it yet). Most of the stuff I have listened to sounds like it was made to perform and enjoy, not necessarily to sell records. My wife's uncle was a golf pro, and had some stories about playing golf with Ernest Tubbs. He also saw him perform several times. The older I get, the more I appreciate the stories of the generations before me.
Regards,
D-Ray

My dad used to wear outrageous cowboy shirts, two tone with gold or silver piping and the opelescent buttons.

Sounds like the player for the wife is a good thing. I have one of those cathedral radio wannabe's, it is fun to have sitting there and I suppose it may be worth listening to with a different speaker in it.
Here's a couple LP's I got at a neighbors yard sale Sat. Never seen this Scruggs ACL before. I am gonna needledrop both these.
