Reverend M.L. King
Today is Rev. Martin Luther King Day. I've been thinking about Reverend King this morning and wondering how may I further the ideals he set forth? So, I've come to this forum just to say, "Peace to you, no matter what your faith-be it Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, Hindu and Atheist- all brothers and sisters, peace to you. Amen.

But to America's shame they had the statue carved in China and I do not think it is a good likeness.

It's neither a good likeness, nor did they get a quote right that was inscribed upon it. It caused quite a kerfuffle and the inscription is going to be redone.

The statue has a certain Soviet era sternness about it. The greater memorial with the inscribed walls from his speeches, etc. is quite moving, but the statue that served as its centerpiece has been quite controversial in terms of the artist (Chinese), stone (also Chinese), stern Soviet-like depiction of King, and the botched/paraphrased inscription.
All in all, it's still a wonderful memorial and highly recommended, but there was some poor decision making involved in its development (as is the case for most National Mall memorials, BTW).

The Chinese stonecarver also inscribed his own name on the statue, something that is never done for a memorial.
