Ain't this rich? Snyder and his cronies decided to use Flint River water to save $5 million (while engaged in a 6-month fight against the EPA about the decision), and now the Governor wants the Federal government to bail the state out to the tune of $96 million after he ignored the EPA's warnings.

I'm with no.....

the people who voted this idiot into office should pay for it.

Aren't we all a little tired of paying for the bad decisions of politicians?

Who is going to pay for damages from lawsuits brought against Snyder's administration for this water fiasco? His administration appointed the two city administrators and they themselves are named in the lawsuits.

We all know the EPA is a federal agency; therefore, it can't be trusted. Just ask the Koch Brothers. Besides, who needs a municipal water supply? I'm sure that there are entrepreneurial folks out there who would love to earn a healthy profit bringing water to the folks. Public water supplies are just another communist plot - designed to control our minds with fluoride.

By the way, the Koch's are spending about nine times what their boy Kasich wants. They figure about $889 Million is what it takes to buy the 2016 election. Ain't it funny how much people are willing to spend to control something they don't believe in.

Regards,'

I guess until the fingers point to Obama and Democrats little outrage from the Passionate Party will happen. Just listen to St Palin blaming Obama for her son's use of hands the other day. The President's fault for sending troops to a war started by......
To prove the point where is the Congressional hearings? Something like Benghazi gets how many and still counting.

Warning regarding the water quality was ignored at both at the state and federal level.
So any inquiry will be a sham or an exercise in finger pointing and of course all the bureaucrats will cover their behinds and hold on to their jobs.

Lot's of could of, should of but never ever a matter of taking accountability. What a waste of tax payers money. Heads roll first and then the inquiry. Ordinary citizens lawyer up, bureaucrats paper up. What else is new?

This article from The Detroit News indicates that the EPA tried for 6 months to get Michigan to comply with its Lead and Copper Rule, but that its hands were effectively tied by respective responsibilities and authorities of the Federal government vs the States.

While it can be certainly argued that the EPA didn't push the Michigan DEQ hard enough, the DEQ was essentially in a position to blow off the EPA (which it did).

Republicans can't have it both ways. They can't constantly complain about EPA overreach and then later complain that the EPA didn't save them from themselves.

Very classy.

'Big lie' doesn't cover it. 'Mega-lie' is more like it.

Not 'pants on fire.' 'Ass on fire.'

I read that article yesterday and why I laid some of the blame on the EPA. They could have gone public with it when the DEQ started their stonewalling. Heck, they have literally banned use of lead in the electronics, so the consequences of lead poisoning is well established. Yet the EPA let themselves be stonewalled? As I said, finger pointing and covering butts is all the paper pushers are capable of and we will see more of it.

After further reading on the Flint case, I agree with your assessment, though I still lay the preponderance of blame with Michigan (with an assist to the EPA for its neglect). It seems to me that Michigan's argument to wrangle ~$100 million out of the Federal government is based upon the argument that "you didn't fight hard enough to save us from ourselves (while we were trying to discredit you)."

FWIW, my recently civil engineering VT graduate son son studied under (and greatly admired) Marc Edwards, the Virginia Tech professor (and McArthur genius grant recipient) who blew the lid off this thing.
