This is the guy who made some racially charged comments about Obama during the 2008 campaign. This is the same guy who remarked: "In Delaware, the largest growth in population is Indian-Americans moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I'm not joking." He also recently joked about his home state of Delaware, saying that it was "a slave state that fought beside the North." He added, "that's only because we couldn't figure out how to get to the South, there were a couple of other states in the way."

So when is Joe going to get "booted", Finn?
That was then, this is now. Politics is about branding and drawing contrasts with opponents. The Democrats have become less tolerant of racism and misogyny while Trump's GOP have embraced both whole-heartedly. Trump has made it very easy for the Dems to claim the high ground on racism and misogyny, deservedly or otherwise. In the words of esteemed political scientist Larry Sabato of UVa (who understands Virginia politics better than just about anybody) "This is about 2020 and having a clean contrast with Donald Trump on racial issues."
