Some will argue they are needed to fight, yes protect against a government in crisis. A government at the point imagined would be immune to a army of citizens . We are in the age of tanks, cannons and drones with smart bombs after all.

The second clearly states "well regulated" and so it should be.

A diligent gun owner always keeps their weapons safe and secure at all times.
So should society do the same.

The sad part is that gun sales are driven by recurring episodes to ban guns.

Yes, is it very counter-productive to talk gun-control without doing it. I wonder if Trump was influenced to suggest the measures he has suggested for this reason....

Look at what throwing up your hands and doing nothing accomplished here.

No assault weapon give targets a chance to fight back....https://www.nydailynews.com/news/wor...bre-story.html

You forgot part of the equation.

How does the NRA control the law makers ?????

Campaign contributions ?? Presumably the gun grabbers lobbyists provide and equal and offsetting level of campaign contributions to gun grabbing politicians.

Maybe what controls (restrains) our politicians is that pesky little thing in the Constitution called the second amendment and a majority of voters who distrust the government enough to want to keep their guns as the ultimate defense against tyranny.

The 2nd isn't intended as a right of armed insurrection against Federal authority. That has never worked out well for those who have tried, the ballot box is the authorized method of dealing with elected tyrants in the US.
So, what right does the second amendment specifically grant as the purpose of "keep and bear arms"? It is clearly stated at the first part. Anything else is reserved to the States and local regulation by other amendments.
The Second confers nothing else, certainly not armed rebellion.

In a word, it's districting. Rural and western areas have disproportionate power due to gerrymanding and senate non-population based districting. Also, the gun propagandists have power tools on their side: hate and testosterone.
