Is it a buffet where you can pick and choose how to participate once you sign up?
Probably not.

There is a programme on radio 4 here every week. It discuses British law that are only used in Britain. Most of them on the programme are lawyers or barristers and a few weeks ago they said there has been over 1400 British laws that have been altered or scrapped. They also said they couldn't stop them being changed or scrapped because of the eu. Is it right for one country to be ruled by another? And don't come out with the smart ass answers, Im talking about today and tomorrow. Would American like to be told by China or Brazil for instance, how to run your country, alter laws. I doubt it.

Well, we have the U.N., which in the case of the U.S. has sometimes been at odds with practices and policies considered incompatible with U.N. standards.

And of course we paid all sorts of attention to the UN.

Because, as a permanent member of the Security Council, they have influence far beyond their actual power.
