Pete that does not spell well for my Big Apple.

Anyhow, the New York Asians especially the Chinese are focused and driven
when it comes to education.

The parent (in Brooklyn often an illegal) is just off the boat and he knows
everything which the NY system requires of his kid to get into an excellent public school.

So he puts his kid into private Saturday school operated by usually a Chinese tutor. The focus is English and Maths.

When the time comes to take that test for elite schools that kid is sharp.
The child gets into one of those schools he is now looking at Harvard, Princeton, MIT, Brown etc.

So in one generation the New York Chinese get a rung up on the social ladder.

Compare to the Black or Hispanic parent. He/she is usually unaware of these schools, their implication, the test, until the year the child is to take the test.
