I would hope that requiring God/Gaia (or whatever her name is) to step in and solve the most pressing issue facing the planet in her own inimitable way would seem to be somewhat counterproductive to advancing civilization. I don't hate kids as long as there's less and less of them being born as time goes on. We are way past self sustainable population levels on this planet and I hate it when God steps in with his/her four horsemen of the apocalypse type solutions. It would appear I'm in the minority but the alternative is a beastly scenario of enormous suffering and carnage. Endless growth in a closed system is cannibalistic, kind of like cancer. Maybe a lottery would be appropriate when deciding who gets to breed? Until we can open up new frontiers that can absorb the excess population, whether that is here on earth through technological advancements or some very far away in the future off planet colonization, we need to address overpopulation in an ever shrinking world of stuff like food and water.
Sermon over...

'Less' or 'fewer'?

'Less' or 'fewer'?

People often don’t know when to use less and when to use fewer in a sentence. Here’s how to get it right.

Use fewer if you’re referring to people or things in the plural (e.g. houses, newspapers, dogs, students, children). For example:

People these days are buying fewer newspapers.
Fewer students are opting to study science-related subjects.
Fewer than thirty children each year develop the disease.

Use less when you’re referring to something that can’t be counted or doesn’t have a plural (e.g. money, air, time, music, rain). For example:

It’s a better job but they pay you less money.
People want to spend less time in traffic jams.
Ironically, when I’m on tour, I listen to less music.

Less is also used with numbers when they are on their own and with expressions of measurement or time, e.g.:

His weight fell from 18 stone to less than 12.
Their marriage lasted less than two years.
Heath Square is less than four miles away from Dublin city centre

Thanks for bringing that up. It's a good lesson.

Sometimes it is just a matter of typos, but I also cringe a little bet when the wrong choice is made between there, their and they're; and also between affect and effect.
