Yep, it is a sad day for those that believe in liberty and freedom. I have no problem with grabbing and holding foreign terrorists, but the extension to American citizens smacks of a police state. Where is the outrage and protesters and media that incessantly attacked GW for usurping freedom in the name of "homeland" security. I still hate that word: "homeland." It was a poor choice then and it still is IMNSHO.

It sucks loudly. This is an example of politicians wanting to show that they're tough on terrorism (as they do for crime in general), constitution or common sense be damned. America loves for its leaders to appear tough. I'd bet that this enjoys popular support, particularly on the Right.

The same people that say, "well, if you're innocent, you aint got nuttin' to worry about". I say B.S. this isn't what it's about.

Another sad day when ones freedoms are legislated away. How could McCain support this in anyway???

We need to be better then this. If you have something to charge then do. Let it be decided in an open court!

I seem to recall that Holder tried to follow the Constitution and try these common criminals in our courts. All the yammering about a war on terrorism has elevated what are simply common criminals to some sort of combattant status, which they most certainly do not deserve.

Whats this now? American citizens will now be subjected to the same criminal bullying and utter disregard for civil liberties and basic human rights that we seem to think we can arbitrarily impose on citizens of other sovereign nations? Perish the notion!

And most of us wonder why we are so reviled by the rest of the world. Amazing.

... and the same clowns who insist upon this treatment are the ones who disparage anyone who questions the mantra of "American exceptionalism." IMHO, to the extent that American exceptionalism is true, it's morons like this who threaten it.

Does Obama know about this? Certainly he'll veto it, as it's only supported by the right.

I'm afraid you have a point, Pete. I heard that there was no indication of a veto over the provision.

Regards,
