This is not a specific kick back at you but I believe that anyone who presumes the Presidency is what actually controls this country doesn't understand how power works.

In many ways, for example, the Speaker of the House wields more actual "power."

Which is why, even if I had all the intangibles, I do not desire to be President: while the perks are great the influence is exaggerated.

Damn it Zeke. Lifting the veil a bit, aren't you?

(Smarter than the average bear here! by a good margin!!)

+1, Everytime that I've poked that sacred cow, all I've heard was nothing but silence and crickets chirping.

Veto power is over rated and fairly impotent in this day and age.

The crux of the problem resides in the House and the Senate and the members obsession with feathering their own nests to the exclusion doing their jobs.

Who's at fault? The slothful electorate for allowing it to continue, unabated. We would have a single payer HC system tomorrow if us slobs would just speak up.

Bread and circus is what we have settled for. Shame on us for accepting it.

I largely agree with these caveats: as the federal government grows so does the power of the executive. You can do a lot by rule changing or choosing rule enforcement.

Also, veto power isn't useless. If nothing else it draws attention.

More proof of the unified theory: people are idiots

That's a darn good reason. Are you sure 400k is enough?

Nope. That's even more poor than $350k and way more poor than $250k. Now, if the job paid <$15k, then you'd be in fat city, (Using rightwing logic.)

My needs are modest. Around 40K and my wife wouldn't have to work...but she probably would since she enjoys it. Around 50-60K and I could actually save some money.

Having Air Force One at my disposal trumps all other perks of the office

Hey, according to the stalwart freinds of the working folk, 250K a year isn't rich
