If we ever move, I might think twice about the value of vinyl. But I don't see us moving for a long time.

A lot of people did that, thinking that CDs were "the wave of the future". Now vinyl is coming back and CDs are dying, being replaced by "hi-res" downloads.

I got rid of mine too and then started collecting again a year or so before the revival began. I now have a larger and better collection than I had previously, more diverse and free of the clunkers that I bought in my youth.

You'll regret it if you do.

I'm not sure that I will have room for the record collection in a nursing home. In other words, I don't see us leaving this house while we are healthy enough to maintain it, and make it up and down stairs. Hopefully, that is many years away.

Sometimes I have the urge to take all my vinyl and dump it in the thrift store just so that I do it and not someone else after I am dead. Sort of less stressful that way.

At work right now I have my copies of the White Album and Beatles 65 that I got in 1977.

They are all scratched to hell.

The first LP I ever selected and purchased on my own was 'Basket of Light' by the Pentangle, in 1969. Still have it, and it's still playable (though the jacket has come apart). Worst thing is one non-repeating skip on the intro to track 1.

Problems like that are what compelled me to move to CD. I now have an extensive collection to which I constantly add. This morning I ordered The traveling Wilbury's, two Tom Petty's (Damn the Torpedos and Fulll Moon Fever) and and old ACDC. I wanted a copy of Ride On on the Who made Who CD.

Good CDs are more convenient and smaller than LPs, the bad ones make nice modernist coasters.

I gotta add though, theres something about the fidelity of an LP that you don't get on a CD.

Don't miss the crackly pop though.
