Bread and Circuses

The White House is supposedly saving $18K a week by cancelling tours of the White House.

Now, we get word that there's apparently enough money in the Secret Service budget to beef up security for Michelle O's birthday bash, as well as put out a nice big spare no expense spread for the celeb crowd that will be invited.

This bunch used to care a little bit about "optics". Now, I guess, not so much. I guess its OK to screw and shut out the little guy by cancelling tours, but its just fine for Marie Antoinette Obama to have her big party.

We should not deny Marie her birthday party.

Moreover to describe a party which I believe has not yet occurred as "a nice big spare no expense spread" is showing your hand a bit.

I had a 50th birthday. I got together with my family and a few friends and we hit a local pizza joint. But I guess I'm OK because the last time I was in DC I at least got a WH tour before they got cancelled.

From the article:

‘The Obamas will pay Adele’s expenses as it’s a private party, not a State one.’

I have no issue with how the Obama's choose to spend their own money.

Would you rather pay for both?

Do you think this is the first time we've paid for a birthday, anniversary or wedding? I'll bet I can dig around and find all sorts of such goings on at the Whitehouse over the years. Probably even going back to the very beginning.

Don't be such a fool. There's nothing new to see here.

And, then there's this. I admit I don't always read the entire article.............

Will you, Mini?

So, the Obamas are going to pick up the tab for the extra security, the Secret Service agents salaries, the salaries of the WH staff the night of the party, the cost of the food and drink? I think not.
