"Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) told California radio station KMJNOW on Friday that he's tested positive for the coronavirus.

The big picture: Nunes is an ardent defender of President Trump and former chair of the House Intelligence Committee. The California congressman is one of over two dozen House members to have contracted COVID-19, NPR reports." Axios

Thots and prayers for his cow.

Michael Knigge @kniggem

The vaccine is the product of a German-American partnership. Germany’s BioNTech, founded by two children of Turkish immigrants, partnered with America’s Pfizer, led by a Greek-born CEO, to produce the coronavirus vaccine. Glad to help.

That’s great.

Just out of curiosity, which country was it that developed the vaccine?

Wonder why. twitter.com/RexChapman/sta…

And while we’re here, a vaccine very much based on the singular work of a Hungarian scientist who emigrated to the US, but who might not be able to get a visa today.

Iowa Is What Happens When Government Does Nothing
The story of the coronavirus in the state is one of government inaction in the name of freedom and personal responsibility.

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics...ndemic/617252/

Quote:
The story of the coronavirus in this state is one of government inaction in the name of freedom and personal responsibility. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has followed President Donald Trump’s lead in downplaying the virus’s seriousness. She never imposed a full stay-at-home order for the state and allowed bars and restaurants to open much earlier than in other places. She imposed a mask mandate for the first time this month—one that health-care professionals consider comically ineffectual—and has questioned the science behind wearing masks at all. Through the month of November, Iowa vacillated between 1,700 and 5,500 cases every day. Between November 23 and November 29, the state’s test-positivity rate reached 50 percent, according to data compiled by Reuters. Iowa is what happens when a government does basically nothing to stop the spread of a deadly virus.

“In a lot of ways, Iowa is serving as the control group of what not to do,” Eli Perencevich, an infectious-disease doctor at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, told me. Although cases dropped in late November—a possible result of a warm spell in Iowa—Perencevich and other public-health experts predict that the state’s lax political leadership will result in a “super peak” over the holidays, and thousands of preventable deaths in the weeks to come. “We know the storm’s coming,” Perencevich said. “You can see it on the horizon.”

‘Like a Hand Grasping’: Trump Appointees Describe the Crushing of the C.D.C.
Kyle McGowan, a former chief of staff at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and his deputy, Amanda Campbell, go public on the Trump administration’s manipulation of the agency.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/16/u...cdc-trump.html

Quote:
ATLANTA — Kyle McGowan, a former chief of staff at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and his deputy, Amanda Campbell, were installed in 2018 as two of the youngest political appointees in the history of the world’s premier public health agency, young Republicans returning to their native Georgia to dream jobs.

But what they witnessed during the coronavirus pandemic this year in the C.D.C.’s leadership suite on the 12-floor headquarters here shook them: Washington’s dismissal of science, the White House’s slow suffocation of the agency’s voice, the meddling in its messages and the siphoning of its budget.
Note for you Trumpkin idiots: These are Republicans, appointed by the #DiaperDon administration.

‘We want them infected’: Trump appointee demanded ‘herd immunity’ strategy, emails reveal
Then-HHS science adviser Paul Alexander called for millions of Americans to be infected as means of fighting Covid-19.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/1...trategy-446408

Quote:
A top Trump appointee repeatedly urged top health officials to adopt a "herd immunity" approach to Covid-19 and allow millions of Americans to be infected by the virus, according to internal emails obtained by the House Oversight Committee and shared with POLITICO.

“There is no other way, we need to establish herd, and it only comes about allowing the non-high risk groups expose themselves to the virus. PERIOD," then-science adviser Paul Alexander wrote on July 4 to his boss, Health and Human Services assistant secretary for public affairs Michael Caputo, and six other senior officials.
Uh, yeah. How 'bout we just pop you in prison for a couple dozen years, asshole?

Quote:
Senior Trump officials have repeatedly denied that herd immunity — a concept advocated by some conservatives as a tactic to control Covid-19 by deliberately exposing less vulnerable populations in hopes of re-opening the economy — was under consideration or shaped the White House's approach to the pandemic. “Herd immunity is not the strategy of the U.S. government with regard to coronavirus," HHS Secretary Alex Azar testified in a House Oversight hearing on Oct. 2.
Lying to congress. More prison time for this one...
