Rest In Peace, Sinéad O’Connor

Sinéad O’Connor, an Irish singer-songwriter who sold millions of records in the 1990s with her ethereal ballads and rebellious anthems, all while defying expectations of how a female pop star should behave — shaving her head, speaking out about her mental health struggles, protesting the Catholic Church during a performance on live television — has died at 56.

Great vocal range, rarely given credit for. About as non-commercial as possible. And of course, I always enjoy those who are brave enough and willing to take issue with organized religious dogma. In O'Connor's case, obviously, that was the Catholic Church, that has generated more suffering in the Republic of Ireland than any other social/cultural institution. If you haven't seen it, take a look at "The Magdelene Sisters", how the Catholic Church in Ireland chose to deal with the issue of "bad girls."

Or related to the Catholic Church in this county, Amy Berg's documentary on serial pedophile priest Oliver O'Grady, and how the LA diocese moved him from one parish to another..."Deliver Us From Evil."
