Then what's the problem if we already have cracked the code to transform the purchase of health care into the equivalent of buying widgets?

Because change doesn't happen overnight. Because you've got folks like you and the AFl-CIO that try to convince folks that these plans are a bad thing. Because we've had 8 years of the left telling folks that getting more and cheaper insurance was the answer rather than focusing on the cost - side of the equation. Because you, for example , and no idea that this type of info was out there - info that could have helped you use your plan more effectively: which isn't unusual since most employers make HDHP / HSA plans available but don't spend the time and effort necessary to teach folks how to use them...
...there's more, but I've addressed your question sufficiently.

HSAs don't help the poor one goddamn bit, Mike. Why do you keep glossing over that?

One can hope they plan ahead but in the end reality will always throw a curve ball and FK up those plans. Do not want to be wishing if only, and will be if the plan you invasion were the norm.
Healthcare needs to be a cure all for the best or worse case scenario.

Sorry, but your Randian solution doesn't cut it. Your scheme, just like the recent abomination passed by the House, is a tax cut for wealthier folks in the guise of health care reform.

I thought the poor already have a solution with Medicare or Medicaid. Or are you suggesting that solution isn't adequate?

You're talking in circles now. We've already addressed how this is not a tax cut.

HSA's unquestionably offer a tax break, with a greater break going to those in higher tax brackets and zero break going to those with no income tax liability (i.e., the poor).
