18 and Dead.
Nothing new here.
My advice to young males is "don't be black".

Quote:
FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — An angry crowd of a couple hundred people marched into a suburban St. Louis County police department Sunday morning, demanding answers a day after a police officer shot and killed an 18-year-old black man.
Some in the crowd taunted police with chants of "Don't shoot me" as they held up their hands while walking into the Ferguson Police Department building. Officers stood at the top of a staircase and stopped the crowd without using force.
A news conference was held simultaneously in a different building. There, St. Louis County Police Jon Belmar said the incident began when the officer encountered two men on the street near an apartment complex on Saturday afternoon in a predominantly black suburb a few miles north of downtown St. Louis.
Belmar said one of the men pushed the officer back into his squad car and the struggle began. Belmar said at least one shot was fired inside the police car.
The struggle spilled out into the street where the teenager was shot. Police have not disclosed his name, but family members say it was 18-year-old Michael Brown.

"Belmar said one of the men pushed the officer back into his squad car and the struggle began (emphasis added). Belmar said at least one shot was fired inside the police car."
Leaving out any racial or age-related undertones, if you do this to me?
You get shot.
Until you are no longer a threat.
If this winds up back out in the street because I am winning? That's on you. There is absolutely no justification -- even if I am harassing or threatening you -- for following me into a car where I can no longer do either. We can kick this around all week but there is no escaping that the kid assaulted law enforcement, who either retreated or was made to retreat, who then used deadly force to secure his own safety.
What, if anything, that happened before this (even if dastardly law enforcement behavior) eradicates not that there was no struggle until IN THE CAR. At face value, which is not always accurate, I do not see a problem with shooting this kid: beyond the shittiness that it actually occurred.

I'm sure there is a lot more to this story than what we have already heard.

What does "encountered" mean.
Were they up to no good?
Or did the officer do a George Zimmerman on them?
Cops routinely harass young black dudes just on general principles.
And I can understand why they get sick and tired of being profiled.
Yeah, you should never push a cop, but then that's easy to say when you're not having to take shit from them on a daily basis because of the way you look.

Even if the worst case of what you're pointing out is true in this scenario, all bets are off once a sworn officer is pushed/followed into his car.
This isn't like Zims at all...

We'll see.
I still want to know why these Cops accosted this kid in the first place.
There's an automatic assumption on the part of many white people including Cops that any young black dude out walking around the street is up to no good.
When people keep thinking that way, and acting on it, it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Respectfully, you miss the point.
Even if the officer were initially out of line, you get shot when I retreat to my cruiser and you engage me, inside. Example? As much as I disdain Zims, I'd feel differently about his situation had he been forced to shoot Martin inside his own home (for whatever reason) as opposed to a public sidewalk.
See the difference?

Doesn't tell me why the Cop "encountered" them.
Were they breaking the law?
Was it for "walking while black"?

Doesn't say much at all on which to base informed impressions of what occured, much like the initial reports of the Martin - Zimmerman encounter.
