Xi blinked?
I'm not sure that the auto tariffs are particularly meaningful, as I don't think China really imports many American cars. They're manufacture them there. It remains to be seen what they indeed do in the area of intellectual property.

I think that's the point, don't you? Higher tariffs depress demand.

Maybe, if there's pent-up demand for that item to begin with. Most countries outside of North America have little desire to drive American cars. Hell, most Americans don't even want to drive American passenger cars (in favor of light trucks). In fact, American manufacturers generally lose (or make very little) money on the sales of passenger cars, but make it up with SUV's and pickup trucks. However, SUV's and pickup trucks have little market in Japan, China or Europe. In short, we don't build the kind of vehicles the rest of the world (outside North America) wants to buy.

Trump Now Wants Back into TPP

President Trump told top administration officials Thursday to look at rejoining the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the multination trade agreement he pulled the United States out of shortly after taking office.

Rejoining the pact would be a major reversal as Trump escalates a trade conflict with China. The 11-nation Pacific rim trade deal was intended by the Obama administration as a way to counter China’s influence, but Trump criticized the pact as a candidate and pulled the United States out of the pact in early 2017.

Trump gave the new orders to U.S. Trade Representative Robert E. Lighthizer and National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow during a meeting with lawmakers and governors on trade issues, according to two GOP senators in attendance.

Nothing is ever firm from Trump other than racism and misogyny.

This week in Trumponomics: Enough tariffs already!

This clown car administration has absolutely no idea what it’s doing. Sad!

Trudeau says NAFTA talks broke down after Pence made ultimatum

Even some Repubes are finally waking up to the complete incompetence of this illegitimate administration. The Fart of the deal.

Trump trade policies threaten 2.6 million US jobs, Chamber of Commerce says

This is from the Chamber of Commerce. Conservative. GOP. You’d have to be as thick headed as Whell to defend Donny’s trade policies.

And now we have the Dotard tweeting about a positive jobs report an hour before its public release, thereby influencing the markets in a manner that would land anyone else in jail.

President Trump on Friday broke with decades of protocol and commented publicly about the highly anticipated jobs report data 69 minutes before they were released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Treasury yields moved sharply higher within seconds of a Twitter post from President Trump that said he was “looking forward to seeing the employment numbers at 8:30 this morning.”

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...-are-released/

I wonder if he tipped off his billionaire buddies last night when he first received the report.
