It was even a Doonsbury cartoon, a black guy on a plane feeling funny because he was profiling the arab near him.

Damn. That's irony. Conservatives aren't supposed to get irony.

I certainly hope that's not the case. If it is, we're all in trouble.

I have had the same feeling boarding a plane.
We all react to "stereotypical" people or groups.

Although it is not correct to assume, my gut reaction to a man with a stocking over his head and a gun pointed at me is that he is up to no good. Do I think all men are up to no good?

Well...........

Not that I don't have some internal fear (usually along the line of "I'll never understand a word of what they're saying"), but I would appreciate not being lumped in with the mortality salience crowd.

On the other hand, if someone's twirling a big black mustache, rubbing their hands together, and mumbling about it all coming together now, yes, I'll get a bit nervous.

In the same vein, though, do have the sudden urge to stock up on kevlar waistcoats just because you see a postman?

Actually I do really believe there are some strange waves in those gangways that lead to the aircraft. Perfectly reasonable people enter at the top and by the time they reach the plane they have reverted to neanderthal status. I was a roadwarrior in my day but you could not pay me to board a plane anymore. If I can't get there by train or car I won't go. People on trains are quite civilized, most long distance drivers are also.

Rotflmao!! That's the funniest thing I've read in ages.

Btw, if you take the train to Cleveland or Toledo out of DC (I think that's doable) I'll take you to Detroit next fest.
