PS: thanks for the thread crap, Don. The air was getting a little dense inhere.

Yeah, I thought we needed a time out. I thought I might bring up one of the most controversial topics from AK, and see how the reaction compares. Turns out it pointed out something we have in common - we're cheap.
I feel like I've made a SCORE when I find one of those 16' extension cords at the thrifts. That's a buck for 16' of speaker cable, enough for any of the long runs I have to make in the house.

Kimber Kable Silver Streak interconnects, Straightwire Black Silc Bi-Wire Speaker Cables.
I got the speakercables from guy I met through a local HiFi dealer, for $400, (He paid $1,200.).
The Kimber interconnects are really nice, the braiding makes sense to me. The Straightwire cables are okay, but I wouldn't pay $400 for them again, much less full price and they are a pain to work with. Unbelieveably stiff.
They do seem to brighten up the somewhat dark sound of the Mac MA6900 though.
I look at the above paragraph and shake my head in disbelief. Signs of more prosperous times, Fellas. Glad I got that last house flipped and sold before the market went to shit.
Now, I'm back to living off of a grease-monkies pay. Oh, well. Like Pops said, "All honest work is honorable work.".

Wanna buy some lightly used Monster Cable?

Actually, that Radio Shack stuff can be really good. I've used their interconnects and other stuff for DIY projects. I never was a big Monster Cable fan. Ultrafine strands without enamel coating do nothing to reduce "skin effect". A true "Litz" wire is so far superior to that overrated hooey MC sells. If you don't believe it, rewire a tonearm with the Cardas 33awg Litz one day. The difference is amazing. But, be forewarned, it's a whore to solder.

When we moved into this house setting up the stereo was one of the last things on the list. I had been using 16ga lamp cord but in the new setup one side was too short so I splices in an extra length using wire nuts. About 7 or 8 years ago I saw some "special" speaker wire so I bought a 50' package, was only abou $10. Cut it into two lengths and put it in place, we did hear a difference but it was probably getting rid of the wing, oops wire nuts.

Anybody else think those overpriced cables and interconnects are just another marketing scam?

I understand single strand doorbell wire is something of a current rage.
Of course I've got to disagree though Not about the doorbell stuff, I did a head to head with a few different wires I had (homemade braided cat5, I think kimber? that my bud gave me, and some I won at the fest) (see, we agree about the cheap part!) and heard a difference, in my mind at least

Rules and laws.
It is getting to the point where if a rule or a law ( such as immigration laws) gets in your way, ignore it then demand we accept such behavior.
Most schools have a dress code. Like it of not.
Not a matter of being homophobic.

I hate dress codes. What kind of country are we when the state can even dictate to our kids what clothing they can wear? Dress codes are a socialistic attack on the individual by a totalitarian regime that DEMANDS conformity and strips the individual of his/her uniqueness. That wonderful essence, bestowed upon each of us by our creator, the Lord God Almighty, and endorsed by none less than the pseudo-angelic "Founders" themselves.
FREEDOM!!!, FREEDOM!!!!
