War Against D.A.E.S.H.

The President formally requests congressional authorization for military force with a three year sunset clause.

"A proposal sent by the White House to Capitol Hill on Wednesday would formally give the president the power to continue the airstrikes he has been conducting since last fall against the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, as well as “associated persons or forces.” The measure would set limits that were never imposed during the wars of the last decade in Afghanistan and Iraq by expiring in three years and withholding permission for “enduring offensive ground combat operations.”" NYTimes

I really don't think Obama is serious and even if we put significant boots on the ground, odds of winning are low to none. So this sounds more like a political move to get McCain and Co. to commit on record or squirm. Or to shift the conversation from Iran to ISIS to run interference against Bibi's visit. Now that would be brilliant.

I rather think that the 'enduring offensive ground operations' could very well mean no long term boots on the ground as in Iraq but does not exclude 'special forces'. He might be contemplating locating al Bagdhadi and taking him out. Not that cutting the head off that snake will kill it.

Probably not, but it's a start. If MOABs are just too destructive there are plenty of opportunities to shred these rapists and murderers with a few hundred well placed cluster bombs. They're really tough when dealing with poor starving civilians. And they have tanks now, thanks to the Iraqi "army." Well OK then...there are certain weapons of war required to eliminate tanks. And reckon how many of those tank operators are former Iraqi army who have gone over.

It's like the old saying in Vietnam, we've got some ARVN M-16's for sale. Never been fired and only dropped once.

So we should send a few TOW missiles to the Kurds already. And air drop them directly to the front lines because the two groups we chose to support are farting and fiddling around and the stuff we have currently sent is not reaching the guys doing the heavy lifting.

Actually, once they've killed off everyone they don't like, Daesh is doing a pretty effective job of re-establishing civilian infrastructure and services, restoring electricity and water, reopening hospitals, resuming pension payments and social services, etc. They represent themselves as a government, not simply an occupier and, as a result, many people in Daesh-controlled areas are better off now than they were under the recent Iraqi governments. Daesh gives them back just a hint of normality, something they've lacked since Operation Iraqi Liberation, probably since the aftermath of Desert Storm.

Daesh is able to accomplish things that the Coalition-imposed government and its successor have failed to do. That's why a lot of people in these areas view them more or less favorable.

Y'know...I don't trust any of the natives, Kurds, Shi'ites, PKK or any of them to have the capacity or the inclination to do anything about ISIS at this point. None of them. At some point they'll all say something like..."Yeah well, they're nuts but their still Muslims...and better than Jews and other infidels. It's not worth dying for, much less spending our own money to get rid of them." So the cancer in Islam will always continue on a grand scale.

What the Islamic world needs is a handful of really merciless dictators like Saddam Hussein and the Shah. One in charge of each sovereign nation, that will lop off the head of any insane radical revolutionary Islamic leader and gas any of the followers of his caliphate that remain. They're all nuts...there is no peaceful intervention with these people. At this point I'm going back on everything I've ever said about Allen Dulles. The way to end this is a flurry of CIA assassinations and the establishment of puppet dictatorial regimes in every country. And any religious lunatics who rise up with their jihads and caliphates get crushed into dust like the vermin they are. Far as I can tell, the only countries that can be half-way trusted not to fall to this shit, at least in the near future, are Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

So let's say ISIS has figured out a way to govern. So the acts they've committed are fine with you? And you would suggest that it's Israeli Jews who are committing the atrocities? Unbelievable. As far as I'm concerned if "...a lot of people in these areas view them more or less favorably..." because they can flush their fucking toilets...those people are no better than the beheaders. And they'll find out, just like innocent civilians in Gaza city who have had their brains blown all over the streets in the middle of the day have found out, that if they don't voice the proper hate of Americans and Jews, if they don't voice the proper support for the worldwide caliphate, they won't be enjoying their flushing toilets for very long.

Despite all evidence to the contrary.
