The stock 2nd amendment mob solution to these events is to make more guns more freely available, and make crime "crimey-er" for even harsher punishments after the fact, and to individualise defense responsibility on the victims, rather than regulation and accountability, because, "FREEDOM!"
Should being a prospective target in a public shooting gallery make one feel "freedom"? About loved ones being exposed to the hazard as "the price of freedom"?
It's likely impossible to prevent all similar threats to real freedom from the prospect of being randomly targeted, but doing nothing to manage the proliferation of availability to all and sundry, regardless of trustworthy responsibility, seems irresponsible in itself.
