When I was a kid, you didn't want to be called Chuck if they were playing that stupid name game song. Then again, some kids would say their name is Chuck just to get a reaction.

I always wondered why they did "Lincoln" in the opening...Years later, I found out that the co-writer of the song was a guy named Lincoln Chase. Still had to grin the 1st time I pulled up in my '67 4-door pervertable, & they went "Lincoln, Lincoln, Bobinkin', Banana-Banna Bobinkin'..."

The problem with "Hate Crimes" is that they lead to the illogical "slippery slope" line of reasoning. With the next illogical step being the "Don't Much Like the SOB" crimes law. Which wouldn't be a problem if our legislators were logical.
But should that come to pass, I fear that we'll all be taken away in chains.
On a more serious note, if it's already against the law, what do we gain by making it against the law twice?
More feel good legislation from politicians who are unable do deal with more pressing problems.

Not to be a broken record here, but the way I understand the laws, they apply when the conduct is illegal without respect to any racial motivation. The laws simply provide for greater punishment when the crimes are used to intimidate a particular race.
If bigotry and hate spewing were illegal, Kansas would have ridded itself of Fred Phelps years ago. In case you haven't heard of him, he and his cult picket the funerals of people who have died of aids or who have been killed in military operations with which they disagree. They send blast faxes to churches who have not fully condemned homosexuality, and regularly send mail to the local churches whose bishop had a son die of aids - referring to the "fag" bishop.
In this country, however, even Fred Phelps has the right to free speech.

D-Ray

You got that right! First Amendment rights are important, but at a funeral? Jesus F****n' Christ, have some cooth for cryin' out loud.
I agree, God Bless'em!

I figgered we'd agree on that one.
Not sure if "straight up" is the right word though. My bets are he's just as gay as Herbert Hoover.
