919 weeks

Sitting around with the family tonight and we get on the subject of pop stars. That leads me to check out the Billboard top 100 to determine my level of ignorance about the artists currently on the charts. It is clear that my ignorance of current pop music is extensive. Then I check out the top 200 albums and I see that Dark Side of the Moon has been on the charts for 919 weeks - just when I thought the music business was completely ruined. But DSOTM was one of about only five of the top 200 that I would have any interest in owning. I do own three of them: DSOTM, Beatles 1 and Bob Marley Legend.

How many of the top albums have you heard, and how many would you want to hear again?

Regards,

D-Ray

I have DSOTM in various forms; I just bought the album at #2 by Coldplay A Head Full Of Dreams. My daughter has both 1989 by Taylor Swift and Honeymoon by Lana Del Rey.

I have the new Beatles 1+ ( you should hear Get Back with George's rhythm guitar amped up so that it sounds like a blues rift) with all the stereo remixes.

DSOTM is the only one I own, though I did have Beatles 1 at one time and I probably have most or all the cuts on Legend on other albums. Those three, maybe excepting Beatles 1, are the only albums on the list that I have any interest in at all.

That being said, the Rolling Stone list of the top 500 all time albums is another matter. I've probably got almost half of those and would like to have maybe about half of the remainder.

Well I would probably own at least 12 of them, because I do.

Abbey Road
Back to Black
Journey's Greatest Hits
Metallica
Master of Puppets
DSOTM
The Eminem Show
All five of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra

I missed Abbey Road. I have that one too. I have not been exposed to Trans-Siberian Orchestra, except that some of them were with Brian Wilson on his tour several years ago, if I recall correctly. Technically, I own 25 by Adele, because I got it for my wife for Christmas. I will see if I can stand to listen to it with her. I am familiar with Trap Queen by Fetty Wap, because it was the walk-up music for Lorenzo Cain, so I heard it hundreds of times this year.

Someone sent me a rip of Dread Side Of The Moon, I'll have to dig it out and play it again sometime.

It's labeled "Dub side of the Moon", definitely Rasta, not Gangsta.

I have Legend. I expected to see M. Jackson's Thriller and Santana's Abraxas.

Apparently, the weeks on the chart number refers to the total number of weeks an album has appeared on the chart - not necessarily consecutive weeks. I assume that albums like Abraxas or Thriller appear on the chart periodically when something piques interest in one of the musicians. I kind of doubt that any of the Christmas albums stay on the chart for long stretches.
