On 6/6, 66 Years Ago Today

The Allied Invasion of Europe began. Meanwhile, in the Pacific, the Marines were up to their necks in blood on Peleliu. With our brave men and women currently fighting and dying in Iraq and Afghanistan as I write this, it strikes me that today is a particularly appropriate day to reflect on the reasons our government chooses to put our military in harm's way.

Thanks to those guys who never came home, but who ensured our soft, cushy life...And to all those who served in other ways, then & since. Especially to my wife who was a WAC post-Viet Nam, & who still serves as an RN at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center..

It strikes me that we should always do that and vehemently object, when it is done for wrong, inconsequential, non-strategic or irrational reasons.

+1. Always show the utmost respect for the men and women who risk all for this nation, but never, ever let the politicians off the hook. Our young peoples lives are too precious to be wasted purely to satisfy the ambitions of self-serving politicos.

Many many thanks to those guys, tough guys. Tough times.

Many may have seen the movie 'the longest day' but if ever the cliche' is true, the book is 8 million times better.
