Impeach Nixon!

No, it's not 1974.

Quote:
The Republican-controlled Missouri House will begin impeachment proceedings against Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon on Wednesday. Why? There are three reasons, according to the state legislature's judiciary committee. First, Nixon allowed legally-married same-sex couples in the state to file joint tax returns in order to keep the state consistent with the IRS's post-Defense of Marriage Act policies. Second, Republicans argue Nixon took too long to call a special election to replace legislative vacancies. Third, Republicans believe that Nixon didn't punish state officials enough over a controversy involving concealed carry permits.

I keep waiting for the public to tire of these extremist theatrics and vote the bums out. I'm afraid I still have a while to wait.

I think at the state level impeachment laws very state to state. You may be thinking of the recall process.

Ah...perhaps I am.

Regardless, I'd always though impeachment was meant for serious misconduct, not petty partisan crap.

Don, what's the standard for impeachment in Missouri? Is it the same as the federal one? Seems to me that none of the "charges" even amounts to a hill of beans, much less to "high crimes and misdemeanors".

Of course, they do involve two of the "Three Gs".

Fucking 'baggers make me sick!

Yeah if we had a normal GOP it would be. I think using impeachment in a cavalier and partisan matter to get at another politician because they are in a different party is a threat to our Democracy. This is something banana republics do. My apologies to sun-glass wearing dicators everywhere.

What is high crime and misdemeanor? That is open for interpretation.
