I noticed but thought it was the lake effect.

I was under the impression that the H1B's intent was to bring foreign labor to the States in fields where there weren't enough US citizens to fill the market. Not trying to offend, as I believe you came here on one, but it seems in many cases these days it is there aren't enough citizens to fill the market at the rate companies want to pay.

Yes I did come here on one but until Florence and I married I was little more than a bond servant. The company paid the immigration lawyer and in actual fact I was one of twenty people who possessed the particular skills and the other nineteen would not have worked for the offered salary. But when you are madly in love and need to be together you tend to do things you might not do otherwise.
Most of the time there were people here with the required skills but they would not work for the offered salaries. So employers could advertise the position and not get any takers because they simply were not offering a decent wage.

Here is how it can work.
I started out working in the warehouse for $3 an hour. I only worked out there for a few weeks and they needed somebody in the office to do inside sales. I got a big raise to $200 per week. I stayed in there five years. Then they wanted somebody to call on the utilities in NC, SC, and Va. I received a raise to $30,000 per year, which wasn't too bad in 1983. They sold me three shares of stock. The central NC territory came open and I took that on straight commission. The original stock holders started to retire and when they did their stock was retired. So, I ended up owning a large share of the company.
Took 30 years, but I did OK.
I bet I could have started out stocking shelves at WalMart and ended up managing a store or better in 30 years.
If you are middle age in the U.S.you lived through the greatest opportunity to prosper the world has ever seen. If you didn't make anything of it go look in the mirror. It was there for you.

You, who are gifted with a sales personality, should know you told your story for your own gratification, and it isn't going to persuade anyone. The opposite, even.

Don, you are a loser. Excuses and being a loser go hand and hand.

Because he did not buy your pitch.
His not believing that the picture you paint is a consistent one for a trying
worker does not make him a winner or loser.

Still confused about the personal gratification motive, JJ?

I see, or as Hop Sing used to say, "Ah, so!"
