BB61 is in da house
USS Iowa is our newest museum ship docked in San Pedro, Port of Los Angeles.
Opening day is this coming Saturday, July 7th. I'm goin' fer sure! We have our good friends up north to thank for not exercising first dibs on her.
What a history she has! A true leviathan! I can't wait to walk her decks!

It is great that it has been saved. There were/are lots of them sitting for decades out by Benecia. They were turning into a serious lead and other toxics problem so they are going to be out of there one way or another.

Good stuff.
The Essex class carrier my father was on for three campaigns in Vietnam is now a museum in NYC.
It's on my list to take him there...

Yes, that's the Iowa herself. As Bob says, she has been moved from Suisun Bay to LA. She is truly beautiful!
The USS New Jersey, BB-62, is a museum ship in Camden.
The USS Missouri, BB-63, is also a museum ship in Pearl Harbor.
The USS Wisconsin, BB-64, is a museum as well. She's in Hampton Roads.
The USS Illinois, BB-65, had her keel laid in January 1945 but was canceled after VJ Day and never completed.
