I blame the shooter.

Just a bad situation.

Too bad we didn't take that attitude after 9/11. Wonder who we should invade for this?

I agree. Violence in our cities and towns is horrible. Did you see the video of the female soccer player? A little God and conscience goes a long way.

I would like to see whether anyone is willing to accept accountability before starting to affix blame. I am too unfamiliar with the human mind and with the military lifestyle to begin to understand this situation. I am also fortunate enough to have never had the experience that those families face right now, but my heart is with them. My heart is also with the countless moslems who will suffer retribution as a result of this senseless act.

Regards,

D-Ray

There was apparently more than one shooter according to the news last night. Hope they hang them all.

Yes, it appears to have been one guy, American-born and of the Muslim faith. Also, despite earlier reports, he's alive and stable but apparently paralyzed. His name is Nidal Malik Hasan. He's an Army Major and an Army-trained psychiatrist.

It's emerging that he had had a problematic career, being counseled during his training owing to problems dealing with patients. He had been at Walter Reed for 6 years but was recently reassigned to Ft. Hood.

Also, relatives have said that he was experiencing a great deal of harassment from colleagues due to his religion. It reached the point that Hasan petitioned to be separated from the service, offering to reimburse the Army for his medical training.

There's also some talk that he was under investigation for postings to the internet where he likened suicide bombers to heroic soldiers who throw themselves on a hand grenade to save their comrades.

I'm sure more will come out as time passes. Perhaps the court martial proceedings will reveal more about his motives and possible associations. Right now, however, he appears to be a lone nut.

Hey, TD -

It's looking like stereotyping by his colleagues may be at the root of Maj. Hasan's actions. If reports from his family can be credited, his Army colleagues gave him a very hard time over his faith and ethnicity.
