I find all of that stuff rather rediculous, we did not have prayers, pledges, etc. classes simply started. About the only time there was anything that had mowt to do with education was the observation of a minute's silence Nov 11th should it fall on a school day.

I remember back in I think 2nd grade, the teacher giving us a lesson on Washington, talking about how in one battle he had 2 horses shot out from under him and 4-5 bullet holes in his jacket, saying 'It proves that God had a plan for the US.' or similar.

She really, really meant it too. I thank God I caught the tail end of the old ways. I also caught the old ways on the tail end occasionally

That is interesting.

I remember a similar story based on JFK and Khrushchev, both in power at the time. I won't boar you with it but when I look back I feel the opposite.
