Of course not the Iraqis. They only thing that Iraq, or rather Saddam did was to position themselves where we could use their behavior as an excuse to invade them. In order to have a base of operations where we could apply pressure on the entire region.
As far as our national interests as well as global stability goes, the Middle East is a barrel of rotten apples. Even our buddies the Suadimites ain't too much to brag about. The invasion of Iraq, besides getting rid of one worthless sumbitch, was, one again, an attempt to apply pressure on the entire region.
Perhaps it wasn't the thing to do. But since we've basically disengaged at this point we'll never know whether it was or not. IMHO.
Now was I in favor of the war...not really. Did I think we had other options...yes. Am I happy that we've taken our ball and gone home...for sure.
But this situation is more complex than Bush lied so that he could start an illegal war. I would imagine that those behind what has happened know a hell of a lot more than we do. And there is no doubt in my mind that plenty of backroom deals and corruption took place. It's a bad situation, and quite possibly one without a good solution.
I'm a simple person. I simply don't know all of the facts, and I simply don't know what the best solution would be.
But I do know one thing. Anyone who claims to have all of the answers is only fooling themselves. At best, the may have a point. This isn't mathematics.
Although I'm a stoopid hillbilly from Bugtussell, I'm smart enough to realize it.
