The point is the attack wasn't on the US Embassy but on a CIA facility. Ambassador Stevenson was there, of course, but since the site was clandestine, he didn't show up with a huge security detail which would have drawn attention to it and to him.

This particular "investigation" is concerning her emails since Gowdy, like Issa before him, failed to come up with anything he could use regarding BENGAZI.

The point actually is, it wasn't the State Department's operation, and the CIA does not want the State Department involved in it's operations in any way. The CIA was reaposible for security and the dead alleged security guys advertised as State Dept. contractors were CIA contractors.
