Hybrids are showing expensive fixes.......

The first wave of hybrids are starting to age and looks like some are starting to fail, my mom took in her Lexus 400H when the dashboard lit up and while it was still under warranty the total was $8600! For the electronics!!!!!! The dealer said they had never had an issue till last year and had 7 in for same thing, as these cars continue to age its gonna be interesting to see what they cost to fix.
My father is buying her a new model without Hybrid because they dont seem to make sense and he got a good bonus, a study showed that the premium you pay for the Hybrid drive calculated against actual savings will take roughly 7 yrs to payoff so unless you intend to keep the car long term the are bad business.
BTW the 400H I am talking about is a 2006 with 32,000 miles and as noted the repair didnt cost her anything out of pocket but the coverage doesnt last forever and not sure if it transfers to second, third owners.
