OK. But can I then refer to the farm aid given out even when a farmer is making healthy 6 figures? (while paying his employees less than minimum wage)

Are we talking about "Ole Zeke" who lives down the road from me or are we talking about "Corporate Farmers" that live overlooking Central Park?

Knock your lights out!!!

I found a USDA site which shows how much every rinky dink farmer gets from the Gubbmitt, fer not growin' pigs or corn, or whatever. Whenever I point this out to my farmin' buddies, they get hostile and defensive.

To tell the truth, no more than what they get, I wouldn't waste my time filling out paperwork and jumping through the hoops. And it ain't like they are running a 40 acres and a mule operation.

The only reason the government has subsdides like this it a form of behavior modification. Big boys don't need it, and the little guys can't afford to pay for the paperwork. The guys I know, who are in the middle, only do it because they think they are gaming the system...weekend warriors with pertty good government jobs, and they are in the know.

Farm subsdities are a joke.

We have one local sage who has his own radio show, the Brownfield Network. And he makes a living out of being a farmer, one of the few.

He's telling everyone to log their property, before the government makes it illegal to cut down their own trees, and he's right. And this is in Missouri, where pretty much anything goes, at least in Moniteau County.

I guess this falls within the law of unintended queconcenses.

Excuse me fellers, had a rough week and a brutal day. Somehow sparring with you guys puts me in a better mood. I'd ask my shrink about this, if I had one.

Thank you, thank you all,

Chas

The farmers around here do fine, but they work their asses off. Anybody who thinks they know what hard work is, should try a dairy farm for about a year.

Actually the people of Illinois should be delighted to have lost the olympics, a definite money loser all round. No one, except maybe China with their slave labour, has made money on the olympics.

I recall back in Montreal when the mayor proposed Expo67, he said it would be easier for a man to have a baby than for the Expo to lose money. After it was all over some reporter asked if he had decided on a name for the baby.

I have not watched an olympic event in over twenty years it has become so corrupted, and as for the IOC, a bigger bunch of wussies you cannot find.

I don't even know about China. 1st they had to build all of that Olympic crapola that they had no use for, then they had to go so far as to paint the grass green, so that it looked like it was alive.

Not to mention, they had to shut down a bunch of factories so that the smog wouldn't kill people as the got off of the plane.

But it was their big chance to put on the dog, and not only in a literal sense. Hitler would have been proud.

Oh, yes I can, they are called the U.N.

Perhaps someone realized that IL is broke, very broke and they have a hard time finding a decent person to be governor.

The UN is a mixed bag, when I was in the standards game I saw a lot of them, the ITU being an arm of the UN. Some were quite dedicated, some liked two hour lunches.

The problem is that every country is a member and gets a vote in the General Assembley, some are very easliy swayed or bought outright. My experience was that a delegate from some African country would attend the meetings (Lord knows why) and stay the first day long enough to get shown as being in attendance. We would not see him again until the last day of the meeting, coming around just to collect all the papers.

The thing is some parts of the UN do work well, the IOC only has the IOC as a hole ^H^H^H^H whole.

Every organization has it's producers, it's troublemakers, and it's duds.

If you judge the "League" by results, they are pretty dismal.

And by the way, I'd like to find the sculptor who created that Colt Python with a knot tied in the barrel and bend the barrel of my Colt Python over his head. It would be worth it.

He should have used a Kalashnikov for his subject if he wanted to make a valid statement. I would imagine that a very large percentage of Pythons have only been test fired at the most.
