We Tried to Call the Top Donors To George Santos’ 2020 Campaign. Many Don’t Seem To Exist.

https://www.motherjones.com/politics...seem-to-exist/

Meanwhile:

The Justice Department has asked the Federal Election Commission to hold off on any enforcement action against George Santos, the Republican congressman from New York who lied about key aspects of his biography, as prosecutors conduct a parallel criminal probe, according to two people familiar with the request.

The request, which came from the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section, is the clearest sign to date that federal prosecutors are examining Santos’s campaign finances.

Trump on George Santos: “I think it's a terrible situation. It's very unfortunate. He's, he's told some whoppers. Reminds me of Biden, actually, the closest thing I can think is Biden, because he's told some whoppers.”

Irony is officially dead and buried.

Now that the Chinese balloon has been burst, Santos is back grabbing the headlines.

Quote:
Santos is accused of harassing prospective staffer in his D.C. office

A prospective staffer in the D.C. office of Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) said Saturday that he was sexually harassed by the embattled congressman, who is facing calls to resign from both sides of the aisle after admitting to fabricating details about his biography.

Derek Myers made the allegation in a series of posts on Twitter, which included a complaint he said he filed with the Office of Congressional Ethics. A spokeswoman for Rep. Susan Wild (D-Pa.), the ranking Democrat on the House Ethics Committee, confirmed that the congresswoman received the complaint.

Representatives for Santos on Sunday referred questions to the congressman’s counsel. Joseph Murray, a lawyer for Santos, declined to comment. The New York Times reported the news about the filing of the complaint on Saturday night.
This story is indeed bizarre, not sure whom to believe but here my intuition says Myers is doing an Andy Warhol. Story seems a bit too contrived and convenient. Or perhaps, they deserve each other. The irony here is that Santos turned Myers down after finding the answers Myers gave regarding his background evasive.

George has competition

Newly elected Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles (R) allegedly invented his entire past and resume.

He allegedly lied about:

1. Being an economist
2. His college major
3. The nature of his work at a think tank
4. Being in law enforcement
5. Being an internationally recognized sex-trafficking expert
6. Being the COO of an international organization

So, a typical Republican.

NEW YORK — George Santos lied to a Seattle judge about working for Goldman Sachs while speaking at a 2017 bail hearing for a “family friend” who later pleaded guilty to fraud in an ATM skimming scheme, according to an audio recording of the proceeding and court records.

A Republican lawmaker from Tennessee has apologised after admitting he lied about being a “trained economist” on his Congressional biography.

First-term Congressman Andy Ogles claimed to have graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in International Relations.

However, Nashville’s NewsChannel5 obtained Mr Ogles’ college transcript which showed he had received a degree in Liberal Studies, and only taken a single economics class for which he received a C.

I think being a pathological liar has now become a prerequisite to being a Republican politician.

Looks like Kev has finally caved.

House Ethics Committee launches investigation of Rep. George Santos

Quote:
The bipartisan subcommittee will determine whether Santos, 34, may have “engaged in unlawful activity with respect to his 2022 congressional campaign; failed to properly disclose required information on statements filed with the House; violated federal conflict of interest laws in connection with his role in a firm providing fiduciary services; and/or engaged in sexual misconduct towards an individual seeking employment in his congressional office,” the statement said.

Rep. David Joyce (R-Ohio) will serve as chair of the investigative subcommittee and Rep. Susan Wild (D-Pa.) will serve as its ranking Democrat. The other two members of the investigative subcommittee are Reps. John Rutherford (R-Fla.) and Glenn Ivey (D-Md.).
