Thanks to Trump.
The objective of tackling China's unfair trade practices would have been far better addressed by the TPP, something killed by your Dear Leader just because Obama had something to do with it - just like the JCPOA and the Paris Climate Accord.

US has already lost a lot since China entered the WTO.
At this juncture US is more capable of taking the pain than China with its massive debt, aging population, ghost cities, and heavy dependence on exports.

China's efforts to transition to "Made in China 2025" are under serious stress.

Trade is just one of the parts in confronting China, a nation which has been waging economic war against the western democracies for some years, which has put in camps a whole ethnic group, a nation with a leader Xi - for life who has been gearing his country to fight the US.

The US would really be dumb to continue to aid and abet China in its transition.

The question before us is none of that. The question before us is whether Trump is effectively directing policy to address such concerns.

Re TPP Trump was very consistent.
He has denounced trade pacts in general, especially NAFTA. How could he accept TTP with its serious issues relating to the give away to corporations and the competition US workers would face from even cheaper workers.
Obama faced serious opposition on that particular issue from the liberal and worker wing of his party.
Even Hillary had to play hypocrite as exposed by wikileak

Donny’s trade war has killed 300,000 jobs

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump...194717808.html

Quote:
[Moody’s Analytics] chief economist, Mark Zandi, told Yahoo Finance that the job toll from the trade war will hit about 450,000 by the end of the year, if there’s no change in policy. By the end of 2020, the trade war will have killed 900,000 jobs, on its current course. The hardest-hit sectors are manufacturing, warehousing, distribution and retail.
So much winning!

U.S. manufacturers experience worst month since 2007-2009 Great Recession, ISM finds

Idiot Donny, of course, blames the Fed. Economists, who actually know what they’re talking about, blame Donny’s idiot tariffs. Idiot Trumpkins believe Donny. Thinking people know better. This result has been obvious all along.

The stock market is becoming a Trump weakness

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/the-s...185218618.html

Quote:

As part of our Trumponomics Report Card, Yahoo Finance measures the performance of the S&P 500 stock index under Trump compared with its performance under six prior presidents, going back to Jimmy Carter, at the same point in their presidencies. A year ago, the Trump stock market ranked second out of seven, behind only Barack Obama. But now he ranks fifth, behind Obama, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan.
Gee, I wonder why Donny hasn’t tweeted about the Dow lately? MAGA!

Just wait a few weeks when the farmers bring in their crops.

""But farmers are losing patience as their crops continue to pile up in storage, potentially jeopardizing Trump’s support among a group that was key to his election in 2016. Even though they’re getting federal bailout payments to help ease losses from the trade war, many are desperate for Trump to cut a deal with China. ""

The old China game is up even if Trump loses the next election. The shift is broad.
