This is really worth reading IMO. Totally encompasses what today's GOP is and stands for. I am not particularly a fan of Cuban but his synopsis hits home.
MARK CUBAN: I want to be a Republican — but the party has one big problem
Quote:
In his Tuesday Cyber Dust post, Cuban also reflected on the meaning of leadership:
Leaders don't conform to the consensus. They create consensus to their vision and goals.
Leaders don't change their positions mid debate. They welcome scorn from the masses because it creates the opportunity for dialogue.
Leaders don’t look backwards to condemn what has already been done, they look forward to create a better future.
Leaders are not dogmatic. They are principled and know that change is never easy, but when it's necessary, they must lead.
The Republican Party does everything possible to discourage leadership.
They want dogma.
They want conformity.
They want to conserve their romanticized past.

Of course he wants smaller government.
He's a billionaire.
He doesn't have to worry about things like how he can afford Health Care if he gets sick, or how he's going to afford college for his kids, or hows he's going to get by on Social Security when he gets too old to work.

I was referring to his statements within the quote box, not what you think he represents. As I said, I am not a fan od Cuban but his statements should make sense for the GOP.

It makes sense to the Establishment wing, but doesn't to the 'Bagger faction. Therein lies the rub in today's GOP.

I've pondered this question a lot lately. I did go ahead and register to vote the other day though. Being in Tennessee seems to bring out a better quality in people. Back in Kansas they stopped giving a shit long ago....

Donald Trump may be proving that the establishment wing does not exist, or has no power anymore. Plus the RNC cannot bring candidates under any sort of leash thanks to Citizen's United. Trump is powerful on another level because he can get by on name recognition alone without a wealthy donor behind him pulling the strings.

The effect of Trump on the GOP is echoed by Sanders on the Democratic Party, except this party is saddled (or is it addled?) with the face of Hillary. Here is a good comment, granted this is a Sanders pitchman.
Quote:
“There’s a longing for real authenticity in politics today,” said Tad Devine, a Democratic strategist who is advising Sanders. “People feel that the candidates are too manufactured, there’s not enough spontaneity. They want someone who, even if they don’t agree with them, is telling it like they see it, really leveling with voters. I see that with Bernie and I think with Trump, too. It’s resonating very powerfully.”

With 17 candidates on the GOP side and Trump leading the charge, there is a lot more drama there letting Hillary hide. This will change soon. As for the billionaire backing, Scott Walker is tanking in the polls. So I am not sure it's money anymore though this will change during the general election campaign.
