This probably belongs on the other side, but since I'm more comfortable here...

Deputy Dog stopped by today, with a 12 pak (my X-mas present), and a 1/2 gallon of whiskey.

As you might imagine, we pulled a cork..or two. (BTW Blue, this is the feller I told you about, who served a tour on the Ranger during Vietnam...and he's still a Wog, although he has been to Arkansas and the county fair).

Anyway, our rambling conversation turned to music, and he expressed his preference for Jim Reeves...real music according to him.

So I dug around and came up with a pristine Franklin Mint LP featuring "Gentleman Jim" and slapped it on the Rega.

One thing led to another, but I finally wound up lighting the Little Dot and handing him my Grado 225's.

First thing he said was, "That sounds GOOD." Then he closed his eyes for a few seconds and remarked, "That sounds better than it did at the beer joint", where, between fist fights, had been his venue for critical listening.

After another app 30 seconds he offered, "I've never heard ANYTHING that sounded like THAT!!!"

I suggested that he pick up a flea market CD player for $10/20 bucks and I've give him a stack of CD's, as I can make 'em for next to nothing.

His response, "You can do that?"

Long story short...I think he'll be looking for a bargain basement CD player at the rummage sales. Which is amazing for him, before, if you couldn't butcher it, or it didn't have the prefix of .45, it had no value at all.

While I took comfort in proving to myself that I hadn't just pissed away a bunch of money on a "rekkerd player", I did take an extreme amount of pleasue of watching my old buddy melt into his chair much as he just experienced his first orgasm.
