Material is solid 5/8 X 3 3/4 plank carbonized bamboo. I cut the slots on my tablesaw with a stacked dadoe set. I wanted the top edge to overhang the metal chassis inwards so I mitered the pieces lengthwise and added a bit to increase the apparent thickness. See line drawing. Photo is of the flooring as it comes from the box. It consists of 1/4" x 5/8" strips glued up vertically to make the plank. It reminds me of an old split cane fishin' rod in it's construction.
Thanks for the compliment! I can tell you that there was good deal more material in the trash barrel than you can see in those pics, though. Just being finicky, I guess.

Thanks Charlie! That means a lot comin' from another well seasoned nail pounder! I have to say that the bamboo bases took almost as long to make as upgrading the electronic bits & pieces. Surely made a pile of sawdust and filled up a trashcan before I was done. That flooring is a bit fidgety to get right but I had to be different from all of the oak and maple bases you see out there.

There's a guy back over at AK who did up some bases out of cocobolo veneer over mdf that blew my mind recently. I'll have to see if I can find the thread. They were for some tube mono blocks.

New tube sockets coming for the Akai M8/Roberts 770s this morning. Good project for the weekend, actually. I might have the new sockets installed tomorrow. If eveything goes right, I'll build a case or cases over the weekend.

Joshua Bell

Not sure what the piece is, but it sure sounds sweet through the Luxman/ADS set-up, here in the bedroom.
