Blaming the victim.

This judge ought to be disbarred.... Or what ever they do to judges when they are incompetent.

We're talking forcible rape of a freshman by a senior, based on the ages given in the piece.

I agree he's getting off real light.

Did anyone bother to read the court transcript?

I doubt that even CNN bothered to do that.

There are two things here that bother me. From the CNN article:

"Young, who was a schoolmate of the victim's when the rape occurred in 2011, was ordered to serve 250 hours of community service at a rape crisis center. The center later said he was not welcome there."

The appropriateness of sentencing the perp to do community service at a rape crisis center is certainly debatable. Theres also a who different discussion about the lack of wisdom of giving children tacit approval to engage in sexual activity.

He gets off lightly. He is probably grinning from ear to ear.

Interesting that the judge in this case is female, given the verdict. She seems to believe it was poor judgement rather than rape, given the details and circumstances. So much for local control without effective oversight.

Some females are especially tough on females....you have been sexually promiscuous and therefore deserved whatever - including rape.

True, but the few publicly disclosed details are about as clear to me as those of the Martin/Zimmerman tragedy were, not very, so it's hard to make a long-distance judgement based on the few available facts rather than conjecture.

So if we wade through the entire court transcript, what are we gonna find out? What possible extenuating circumstances are there in a forcible rape? Because the guy was convicted of a forcible rape. I don't give a shit if the victim was a 37 year old hooker. If you don't want the penetration it's rape. She could be on her back, in the receiving position and change her mind. If he doesn't stop it's a forcible rape. And who gives a shit if he's not your "typical offender"? If it's a rape it's a rape.
