Guess I'm just self centered, but once I'm dead I figure the species is on it's own. But I've done a considerable amount of attempting to perpetuate the species, although that was the last thing on my mind at the time.

And a couple of times, I was really scared that I may have been successful.

And back to space rocks...what's the point to track 'em if we can't do anything about 'em.

My 2 granmothers, one lived to be almost 103-She missed it by just from June to Sept-& the other one was about 6 months away from 105...Trust me on this, you DO NOT want to live that long......

Two things come to mind, we may be able to ward off smaller ones if we have notice and the sooner we start to monitor these things the better we will get at it which again would up the odds that we would be able to respond.
I would guess that within 100 years or so we will have colonies on Mars or Europa or..... that man could keep the species alive even if our home planet is destroyed.
