Gengrich would be great, then we could have a class war.

There is only one viable candidate at tis point on the republican radar and that if Romney.

I don't know Sandy, I think the Republicans will make some gains in the coming elections. Depending on how many seats are open, and where, I can see them taking back either the house or senate in the next couple of elections. They looked dead in '92 also. Of course, changing demographics may prove me wrong on this.

It's also possible that Obama will be a one term president. Don't know who will knock him off, but people boil to the top from unlikely places.

Time will tell.

DON'T say "Knock him off" when referring to His Holiness...

You know this place is really the best laugh I have had all year. You pick a senile old galoot and a pistol packin momma, who shoots wolves from an airplane as your candidates and you are dismayed when they lose the election. What exactly did you expect, did you really believe the country was having an epidemic of stupid?

Most of the Republicans I know thought the election was lost in 2007. Most of them didn't care for McCain either.

And I have to admit, the Pubbies know how to pick 'em...let's not forget Bob Dole.

As I've said before, it's amazing what boils to the top of the pot in politics. That said, I would have preferred McCain to Obama.

Now that you explain it like that, I can see why we should have never thought he would have a chance against a "do nothing" Chicago senator who frequented a "Hate America especially the white ones" church, hung out with folks who blew up cop stations, and bought his house from a convicted real estate swindler. Yeh, how could we have been so stupid as to think a decorated war hero could have a chance against a Muslim dude named Husein?

Well, I would have preferred someone other than McCain.

But once it came down to "the lesser of two evils", I ran with McCain...and for the same reasons you just stated.

IMHO, McCain should have smiled a lot less, and cussed a lot more. He's an ex Navy fighter jock...don't think smiling comes natural to them.

I didn't think McCain was the best choice either, but I think the Republicans could have run Jesus Hisself & STILL gotten their asses handed to 'em...In other words, it didn't matter if the Democrats had run a monkey, he would have won.
