Immigrants, or illegal immigrants? I know you libs have stopped using that phrase, but it means the ones who just swim across the river. If it is legal immigrants trying to do a short cut to citizenship, I'm all for it. If it's a back door farce for immunity I'm out.

It's 12 million people. You understand this dontcha? Even Reagan said it wasn't a problem...that they're doing the jobs that hard working Americans are too good for. You understand how it got to be 12 million people, yes? That NAFTA drove the price of farm crops down to the point where Mexican farmers could no longer afford to buy the seed, or run their farm operations without bleeding money. So they just stopped. Just shut it down. And workers who depended on those farm sector jobs fled to this country to survive.
You have Archer Daniels Midland, Con-Agra, Corn Products Inc., Cargill and the US Congress that passed NAFTA to thank for the explosion of undocumented immigrants from Mexico. As far as I'm concerned, the immigrants are just people who have been driven to the point where they will do what they need to for income to feed themselves and their families.

Y'know Jay, we've been friends for years and I hope we can remain so but this purely partisan political warfare needs to cease for the country's sake. It's poisonous, corrosive and un American. Read Ike's post above as he put it better than I.
Regards, Bob

If by "river" you mean Atlantic Ocean...
Mexicans, for example, possess a far more solid claim than those of typical European stock to being Natives of this continent. That someone showed up and imposed borders -- then moved them around at a whim -- whilst (now) claiming Manifest Destiny is a pretty weak argument to presume who is illegal and who is not.

How is a kid brought here without any choice when he/she was a child an illegal immigrant?

Just think, we all could've gone with Bush Jr/McCain's plan and had this done and over.
Both sides demagogue this to death. The correct plan is almost certainly a plan that pisses everyone off.
The left is going to be very sad when the Senate goes right. But it'll be gerrymandering

Counting your chickens before they hatch?
I have every confidence that the 'pubbie candidates will pull a Mourdock or somesuch and nail their swingin' cods to the platform planks of hate again.

Whell I agree, and it shows the weakness of these reforms. They always say it'll be accompanied by a crackdown that doesn't happen.

No compassion?
How about not deporting people who have been here for at least five
years and have no infraction with the law apart from the one of being here illegally.
