Here's a video of Conan O'Brien and Hunter S Thompson drinking some hard liquor and shooting off some assault weapons.

You're absolutely right, Painter. And good article, BTW.

So, what ever did happen to those glass bottles we used to return?

They were replaced with plastic because it was more "cost effective" for the producers.

BTW. I don't know about your local government, but mine gave me a large blue bin to put all of my recyclables in. Cardboard, plastic, glass and metal.

Every thursday night I push it out to the curb..............

All of my neighbors do.

I guess I should consider this government mandated recycling to be "totalitarian oppression".

Yes Blue...we were given those a few years back. I was glad to see that the components of the plastic bags (doled out) have changed chemically to break down sooner.
One thing I neglected to mention was the etiquette (if you will) involved in a solar dryer (clothes lines). I still use them on ocassion for sheets. Back in the day...there was a proper way to hang garments. Shirts always by the bottom...underwear in between two other full lines (modesty).
I shan't bore you...but its fun to reflect.

One progressive wealthy suburb here has three additional containers you must use. And they charge you for the trouble

What's with all these man dates anyway

I can't cite studies, but it seems like the return and cleaning of bottles was somewhat energy intensive - but then so is recycling.

Regards,

Biodegradable bags/plastic aren't exactly what they're cracked up to be - they break into little pieces but the pieces don't decompose. There's a giant area in the Pacific ocean where tons of the stuff has collected. Yeah, we've made a mess of this planet.

Iirc it takes a third of the energy required to make a new aluminum can to recycle it.

Just some PSAs'

Yet...I assume because of the cost...unless you request paper...you get the plastic.
With the cost of petroleum to make them...you would think paper would be the choice.
Myself...I take my own canvas bags lined with a $1. store shower curtain (washable).

My mother used to prefer hanging the clothes out. I remember one day a couple birds perched on the clothesline crapped down a sheet, or something. Man, was she ticked!

That's why parents bought pellet/BB guns for their kids.

Here in SOCal, you hang them out and they'll be dirtier than before they were washed.
