We've seen the Minerals Management Service at work too.

Hookers and blow seem to be the enemies of good oversight (same case for Wall St., BTW). Maybe we should make hookers and blow illegal.

Time to post positive news about the UAW and the auto makers

I heard about this several weeks ago and kept an ear out for any news reporting on it. Neither the right wing wing media or the left wing media here has said a damn thing about this. I did hear a BBC radio report.

The UAW and all three car manufacturers have come to a contract agreement that is good for workers, good for management, and good for the country. It is a fine example of what management and workers can do when they put there heads together to come up with common sense solutions, without the dick measuring contest mentality. Also, as an added bonus, they will INSOURCE jobs from China, Japan, and Mexico. I am only going to post the Ford link but all three have signed on to the new agreement.

The Obama administration made the right call on this one. Credit where credit is due. The BBC report had a source, which I cannot recall at the moment, that stated, the US auto industry will be a big part of pulling the US out of recession.

side note:

Check out the new Ford service van.

It is a blatant rip off of the Mercedes Sprinter. We are finally learning from the Chinese.

So, when's the left gonna get me 17 paid holidays?

Rob, a green left candidate who was going to change everything, left the MMS perfectly alone.

Well you see that is the perfectly stupid part of our system. An incoming president gets to/has to appoint close to 8000 people. Now how many HR departments would it take to manage that task properly? What are the qualifications of these people - how much they contributed to his/her election?

Instead of these people being qualified civil servants who have been appraised over their careers you get a bunch of doofuses, like the ones Dubya had put in MMS.

Advise and consent was certainly not one of the Framer's better ideas. All cabinet level people should be the incoming president's choice - period. All assistant secretarial positions should be career civil servants. Y'all piss and moan about how government does not work. Under the current system it is a bloody wonder that it works at all.

Y'all preach at me about business, so how would you expect a business to run if the CEO had to have his/her management team approved by not only his/her friends but all their competitors as well?

The way this system is setup it can only work if the elected representatives are well meaning intelligent men and women. It simply falls on its collective arse when stocked with Paul Ryans, Eric Cantors, John Boehners and Mitch McConnells, Harry Reids, Nancy Pelosis and Max Baucus'.

Damn it, another great post by someone who tends to lean a bit left. But what about these Czars Rob? They seem to be a lot like game wardens in that they are judge, jury, and executioner for whatever the cause is. Did you know a federal game warden can knock on your door, search your house without a warrant, and arrest you if they feel like it? We are supposed to have checks and balances, but where are they on these appointed Czars? This isn't picking on Obama either, I'm pretty sure Bush had more of them than Obama does. It looks to me like the checks and balances have gotten lost somewhere along the way. What say you?
