Can we please get past the politicization of Michael Vick?!

I've like Michael Vick for some time having followed him since he burst onto the college scene some 10 years ago. His first few years in the NFL he was the most electrifying player in the league leading the Atlanta Falcons to multiple playoff appearances. He has recently returned to the league and prior to last night was in serious contention of MVP.

Yes, I believe that what he did with regards to dogfighting was wrong and inhumane. However, he has been punished according to the law and sufficiently in my eyes. Needless to say I was rather perturbed when I read about this in the morning:

Unless someone was to put a hit on Rupert Murdoch, not bloody likely.

As a Hokie myself, I've followed Vick since he first set foot in Blacksburg. I'm four-square behind him in his rehab efforts.

Don't know much about Vick, but I suspect he came from a dog fighting culture. Which would mean that dog fighting is the norm in their society.

I find dog fighting distasteful, even more so than chicken fighting...chickens ain't very loveable. And I cheer for the bull in a bullfight...sow grizzly fighting would almost be entertaining.

I imagine Vick knew what he was doing was illegal, but I doubt that he felt it was immoral. I suspect it was the way he was raised.

Anyway, he's done his time, and I don't care to pass judgment on the man. Allow the man his future.

QFT. You're far more eloquent than I was, Chas.

Naw, I just spent more time.

Besides, I knew a guy who raised fightin' chickens once. He knew it was illegal, which had a lot to do with why he was never caught.

For him, the fight was the very least of it. The breeding, training, and preparation was what he enjoyed. He actually loved those damn chickens.

Considering that we humans send our offspring to die in battle, it chicken fighting so bad?

Chas

Depends whose life is more important to you. Your chillens, or your chickens?

Agreed. I'm certainly not pro dog fighting, but the way most seem to think it's worse than frickaseein' children is a little loopy.
