The war the republicans have always wanted has begun

It's been apparent for years that republicans have no interest in democracy or the will of the people. Their only interest is in forcing the republican agenda on the people whether the people want it or not.

It happened in Kansas, a formerly moderate state and in every republican state in the union where republicans have worked their evil magic to undermine and deny any vote that contradicts their agenda of absolute white power and alt right beliefs; beliefs that deny women to make their own decisions, beliefs that deny minorities a voice and beliefs that foment hatred towards anyone who does not march in lockstep with the alt right agenda. In these places they've used propaganda and fear mongering to pass laws restricting the ability of the people to practice free will. In these republican stronghold freedom is narrowly defined as "what the GOP elite allows", not what the will of the people demand.

They operate by hamstringing lawfully elected officials, both democrat and moderate republican so those elected leaders are unable to govern. They work to undermine our government, they operate by shutting down the government if they don't get their way, they operate in sneaky and stealthy ways out of the public eye.

North Carolina is becoming ground zero for this war, where the republican agenda of hate and exclusion is being resisted by the people. The will of the people being the election of a democrat to govern. We see the republicans in the state's legislature and senate now working to neuter any power the newly elected governor may have, making him virtually powerless and unable to work for the people who elected him. Much like the U.S. house and senate have worked tirelessly to undermine Obama since his landslide elections.

Trump threatened this very thing before the election, threatening to destroy the very essence of democracy if he did not win by refusing to accept the will of the people. Trump, eventually winning the election by using a nation historically hostile to the united states to interfere in our election and sway the results. Many Americans would call this treason.

The same is being played out on the national level in the supreme court where republicans have refused to allow the legally elected democrat president to appoint a new justice. Many consider this to be treasonous.

I call this a coup.

The people of North Carolina are rightfully protesting, but a coup does not respond to protests, a coup only responds to violence. Perhaps it's time the 76% of people who are not alt right wing traitorous nazis take up arms to protect our democracy from the hateful dictatorship that the republicans wish to impose upon us all. Veterans loyal to the people of the United States and our form of governing, now is the time for you to uphold your vows to this country.

It should come as no surprise that I don't agree 100%.

I agree we need a revolution.

But it's not just the Republicans that are the problem.

The Democratic Party is every bit as guilty.

They both need to be overthrown.

The agenda that MrPots is writing of is all Republican. A very good post MrPots.
I would accuse the Democrats of being wimps and letting the GOP run roughshod, their main interest is only to maintain their own status quo.

Coup is a good word. It captures the illegitimacy, the 'might makes right' ethos seen so clearly in much of the behavior of the authoritarian right.

The left has the advantage of not being so often or so much burdened with the macho instinct. This aids in seeing through the vapidity of testosterone-fueled metaphors like 'wimps.' As if personal musculature and aggressiveness had fuck-all to do with how we should run our society.

Valuing cooperation above competition is good in normal times. But largely fueled by internet manipulations, we have become so polarized as a society, and the aggressive right has become so aroused, that there is indeed danger of a right wing "coup," as Potter said.

We need to pull back from this brink. If it gets bloody, it's likely to get extremely bloody. We're all Americans, and nothing is worth that.

There's been no coup.

There has been a complete repudiation of the Democrat party - from top to bottom, at the national, state and local level - in nearly every state in the union. The repudiation has occurred at the ballot box. It started in 2010 and has continued through the 2016 election cycle.

Deal with it.

Sure. Complete.

Which is why the Democrat who was just elected Governor is now being subjected to an unprecedented attempt by the legislature to usurp his powers. But oh no, that's not a coup....

Wrong.

Half the voting public wanted neither candidate and didn't vote. Trump was elected by only 25% of the voting population by default, and he didn't even get a majority vote. 75% of the voting public flat out rejected him.

That's about the same margins Brownback was elected on.

The republican campaign to keep people away from the polls has been very effective.

Refusing a vote on Obamas appointments could also be a coup... denying him the power he's been granted as president.
