I do not believe the Republican Party is capable of nominating a black man for President, no matter how right wing he may be. Their base is too racist for that. If the Republican establishment is able to take Trump down, as they are trying to by any means possible, then I believe the nominee will be Jeb Bush.

All in all, no. Nor would he be more than a relative improvement if he did.

The mainstream GOP wants and needs Jeb Bush to be the nominee and they have made a huge investment. Cruz, Huckabee, etc. would have kept the TP base engaged till the end when Bush could have slid in as a compromise candidate (like Romney did). Trump has totally screwed up their plans and now they are looking for someone to take down Trump since Bush3 has failed at it so far. It's all good.

I believe that to be a pretty good assessment of the situation.

When you really think about it I think most Americans, Republican or Democrat, probably do not want another Bush in the White House. I think the real reason Trump is ascendant is that Jeb is really a poor candidate. I mean if that is the best the GOP establishment can do then it sounds like the GOP is dying or morphing into some other type of political party.

I think W has put a sort of curse on the GOP. FDR was such a positive force it took 20 years for another Republican to win the office. I think W is such a negative force that it will be 20 years before another GOP president is chosen. Jeb is not a cure for that, in fact he is making the curse much worse.

I mean who gets excited about Jeb? I just get reminded of W whenever I see him.

The people that pick the Republican nominee are not "most Americans". They are the super rich political donor class. And they have chosen Jeb Bush, as evidenced by the fact that he has a bigger campaign war chest than every other candidate running by a shitload. And Jeb has already pledged to pay them back as evidenced by his "Tax Plan" that overwhelmingly favors the super rich. Hell, I guarantee you that Jeb didn't write that Tax Plan. That Tax Plan was written and handed to him by lobbyists for his big donors.

And said big doners must have stupidly insisted that the Bush campaign issue that plan now. It's a dead giveaway as to who he would be president for, and it will not gain him votes with even Republican primary voters. The campiagn guys, left to themselves, would never have issued a plan with specifics, let alone those specifics, at this point in the race. But the big doners are in it to be 'big men,' and big men like to get what they want, now.

I dunno.

W got away with basically the same kind of plan.

You make sure the plan throws a few crumbs to the middle class, remember that $600 for a MFJ return? And you showcase the Hell out of those cuts and hide the big cuts to the rich which is the real meat of your plan.
